Doesn’t it ring a bell? The famous saying of “The Rich Get Richer and Poor Get Poorer”. It gets one questioning the truth behind this statement… Why should it be so we ask? Have you ever stopped to think that you might be a victim of this statement? We all dream of becoming rich. Does the statement encourage or discourage you? My attention is drawn every time I hear it and I begin questioning.
I write this according to my personal experiences; I dream, wish and hope to be rich one day. I want to live in a mansion with a swimming pool, have a big family and drive an expensive BMW sports car, take my children to expensive schools to get what we call ‘better education’.
But the question is. How do I make all this happen?
My Advice: GET YOUSELF A MENTOR!!!
According to oxford dictionary - a mentor is someone wise, a trusted adviser and a good helper. Someone with experience and has a good judgment.
At first I knew what a mentor was but did not understand why I needed one. But little did I know how my life would change after I got a mentor. When I got myself a mentor, my life changed. I became happy and started taking charge of my destiny and began working towards achieving my goals.
My mentor encourages me to do more than I did yesterday. He motivates me at all times and wants nothing but success for me. He inspires me because he always refers me to people who inspire him as well, people who have made it big and people who mentor him. He constantly sends me quotes from great philosophers such as Robert Kiosaki, Michael Bernard Beckwith and Buhle Dlamini (just to mention a few). I am inspired and motivated. I have recently read books - Being Happy And Successful and The Secret.
I sometimes ask myself, if I didn’t have a mentor, where would I be today? Only God knows. If I had a mentor at an early age, I strongly believe that I would be far by now.
But how does one get a mentor?
Well, I sometimes describe myself as an “explorant person”. When I meet new people, I question and create challenging conversations exploring their disposition. That’s how I got a mentor, I explored him as much as he explored me and I wanted to know more until he discovered my abilities then he taught and showed me more. You do not need to part with a lot of money for a session with a mentor. Change the way you think and dare to explore other people’s trend of thought. Adopt a culture of analysing people and their character and soon you might find a character that you would like to mold yourself around.
If I Can Do It, So Can You. Get yourself a mentor and stay motivated at all times. Have someone you look up to and always want to do more. Look at six of your friends and question the contribution they bring to your life. If the contribution is negative, you should consider building new friendships. The people you surround yourself with determine the level of your success or failure and this might dampen your efforts of being mentored. Take the test, you won’t regret!
